Let’s Talk Friday Resets-Because Whew, Life Can Be A Lot

Fridays used to be just another “yay it’s the weekend” moment for me. Now? They’ve turned into something way more grounding-my weekly Friday reset and mental health check-in. Think of it as a self-audit, minus the scary IRS vibes and more like “hey, let’s see what actually went down this week and what I need to feel better.”

So, if you’ve ever hit Friday night wondering why you’re mentally drained even though you “didn’t do that much,” this is for you.

What Even Is a Friday Reset?

It’s the moment I pause-before jumping into plans, scrolling mindlessly, or deciding I need a full life makeover-and ask:

  • How do I feel?
  • What did this week really look like?
  • What do I need to leave behind before I carry it into the weekend?

A Friday reset isn’t about productivity. It’s about presence. Giving yourself space to just be for a second.

My Friday Mental Health Check-In Looks Like This:

1. What’s my mood right now, honestly?

Not sugarcoated. Not “I’m fine.” Am I tired, anxious, proud, sad, grateful? I say it out loud or write it down. I don’t judge it-I just name it.

2. What went well this week?

Even if it was just getting out of bed on time twice or not swiping your card on impulse because you’re sad-I celebrate it.

3. What drained me?

Did I say yes too much? Was work heavy? Did I spend too much time on my phone? This helps me know what to shift.

4. What do I need this weekend?

Do I need rest, fun, connection, or alone time? I check in with my needs before planning everything around others.

5. What’s something I’m letting go of before next week?

A mistake, a mood, an expectation. I physically write it down and mentally throw it in the trash.

Little Rituals That Help Me Reset

  • Light a candle (yes, I’m a basic candle girl and proud)
  • Play a calming playlist (or your favorite sad songs, let’s be real)
  • Open my journal or notes app
  • Make a small plan for something that actually brings me joy-like a coffee run or a target stroll

This Isn’t About Being Perfect-It’s About Being Real

The point isn’t to have all the answers. It’s just to check in before you check out for the weekend. So many of us keep running on autopilot and wonder why we feel off. This reset helps me feel again-without spiraling or overthinking.

Give It a Try This Friday

You don’t need to block an hour. You don’t need a therapist’s couch. You just need 10 minutes, your favorite vibe, and some honesty with yourself. That’s it.

Because taking care of your mental health doesn’t always look like a full self-care day. Sometimes, it’s just asking, “How am I doing?” and actually listening to the answer.
